Asynchronous work
Asynchronous work is a way of coordinating teams in which replies are not expected in real time. Each person advances within their own hours using written documentation, recorded decisions and clear deadlines instead of simultaneous meetings. It is what lets a team operate across incompatible time zones.
Async is not «reply later»: it is designing work so nobody is blocked waiting. It requires writing with more context than usual, recording the decision rather than just the conversation, and replacing the status meeting with a document that stays current. Teams that fail at remote almost always fail here, not at the technology.
